What the brand needed
South Africans are more stressed about money than ever. COVID-19 has impacted almost every aspect of our lives and the economy, with almost 36% of employers letting staff go. This has left many without an income, desperate to find a financial lifeline to feed their families and pay their bills.
As the ultimate tech for start-ups, entrepreneurs, and small businesses, Acer was in the perfect position to support people who were looking to start side hustles. So, we set out to create a campaign to empower our nation during this difficult time by giving entrepreneurs the tools they needed to bring their businesses to life.
Insights and execution
Using South African entrepreneurs as influencers to inspire and educate our audience, we put out the call to small businesses that needed help getting off the ground.
The Acer #InstaPitch campaign reimagined the elevator pitch by capitalising on social media reach. Instead of an intimidating business pitch, we challenged entrepreneurs to pitch their biggest and boldest business ideas in a way they were more familiar with – using Instagram Stories in 10 frames or less.
We then reposted their #InstaPitches on our social pages, giving these future business leaders access to our audience. Plus, we backed businesses weekly with personalised Acer technology solutions. Of these weekly winners, we rewarded three of them with R40,000 each and personalised business coaching.
The results
Over 50 budding businesses submitted their Insta Pitches, and even more people got valuable business tips and advice during the campaign. We gave these businesses, and the entrepreneurs behind them, the opportunities and resources to impact the lives of their communities and the country as a whole.
